You're not alone

IBS can be difficult to talk about. But it shouldn't be. Despite being a relatively common condition, most people don't seek treatment. Many find it uncomfortable to discuss, or due to the unpredictable nature of IBS, are afraid they won't be able to get the help they need.

IBS has many names, including Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Irritable Colon, Spastic Colon, and Nervous Stomach. All of these describe a syndrome that does not yet have a discernible direct cause but can commonly be triggered by hormonal changes, medication side effects, stress, anxiety, or depression.

IBS can only be effectively treated by a medical professional. And the good news is that despite its mysterious nature, many effective treatments can help sufferers go back to living comfortable, healthy lives without the stress of IBS.

What causes IBS?

The exact causes of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) are not fully understood. However, there are several factors that are believed to contribute to the development of IBS. These factors include:

Altered gastrointestinal motility

People with IBS may have abnormal contractions of the muscles in their intestines, either stronger and longer-lasting contractions (spasms) or weaker and less efficient contractions, leading to changes in bowel movements.

Increased sensitivity to pain

Individuals with IBS may have a heightened sensitivity to pain in their digestive system. This can result in discomfort or pain that is perceived more intensely than in individuals without IBS.

Intestinal inflammation

Some people with IBS may have a low-grade inflammation in their intestines, which can contribute to symptoms such as abdominal pain and changes in bowel habits.

Changes in gut microbiota

The balance of bacteria and other microorganisms in the gut, known as the gut microbiota, may be disrupted in people with IBS. This imbalance could potentially influence digestive function and lead to symptoms.

Food sensitivities

Certain foods or beverages may trigger or worsen symptoms in individuals with IBS. Common triggers include fatty foods, spicy foods, caffeine, alcohol, and artificial sweeteners.

Psychological factors

Stress, anxiety, and other psychological factors can influence the functioning of the digestive system. People with IBS may experience an exacerbation of symptoms during periods of increased stress or emotional turmoil.

It's important to note that IBS is a complex condition, and the interplay of these factors can vary from person to person. If you suspect you have IBS or are experiencing gastrointestinal symptoms, it's best to consult with your primary care provider for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management strategies.

Don't take our word for it.

We are trusted by over 50,000 patients every month. Here's what they have to say.

Circle Medical has in all honesty provided me with the most attentive, compassionate, and informed health care I've ever received. Being able to get care that fits with my demanding and unusual work schedule is a game- changer. So many times in the past I've been unable to access care I needed, or follow-up care, because of travel issues, time constraints, and my own anxiety & depression.

Selah

Ease of access to medical professionals. Great communication and response time.

Timothy

It's very easy & convenient. I love that I can see my provider without having to leave my house & I can send a message to her anytime with quick response times.

Rigoberto

My primary care provider is so nice and helpful. The system is very easy user friendly, and the prices are reasonable compared to many other companies.

Cadence

I have really loved using Circle Medical. I use Circle for both ADHD treatment and as my primary care provider. I’ve had an easy time with making appointments, seeing my doctors, and I receive amazing care. I work long hours and it’s difficult for me to visit typical doctor’s offices, so it’s nice to have a well rounded online clinic. I also feel that Circle Medical has a great background and it feels more secure knowing that they are tied to a large hospital with a great track record.

Tripp

It was accessible, period. I could get an appointment that was not months out like most local doctors. Gave me records that documented my history. Made it possible to receive care online/virtually.

Rosemary

I have worked with 2 other similar companies and this one far exceeded expectation in every category.

Charles

Easy to schedule and the providers are very kind and helpful and knowledgeable.

Geoff

Honestly my provider has been vastly more concerned about my needs than any doctor I've been too before, and I don't even have to leave my house. This has been an absolutely amazing medical experience.

Warren

Everything about using Circle Medical has been great! My provider is amazing and always happy to help with any questions or concerns I have. The administration staff is also very helpful and answers my questions very quickly if I have an issue with my pharmacy, etc. I have recommended Circle to several friends and would gladly recommend them to anyone.

Kylie

The providers are very empathetic and I always feel comfortable discussing my issues.

Dira

I absolutely love my provider. She spends quality time listening to me. It’s rare these days that a doctor is willing to SEE you, and I don’t mean see you as in pop in for an appointment and push you out the door. She is an active listener and sees that I want to change my life. She’s helping me do that!

Lana

The appointments are easy to schedule and meetings are all virtual which is convenient with my work schedule. I was even able to schedule an appointment for Sunday which is awesome. My provider is very friendly and professional. Also very thorough. I highly recommend

Helena

I love the app. Excellent. You could book on an appt early or on weekends. The provider I work with is knowledgeable, friendly, compassionate and very supportive and thorough!!!

Tate

I have had a wonderful experience with Circle Medical since I joined on this past February. If I have any questions, the chat feature is great because I receive a quick response. My provider is wonderful. She's been so helpful in my diagnosing and treating my ADHD, but we have also talked about other health issues/concerns and come up with some great solutions. Our monthly video conferences are convenient (much easier than taking off work to go into a doctor's office). I hope to continue using Circle Medical for a time to come.

Emelia

The provider listened, understood, and helped. Everything you look for. The appointment was convenient. I’m scheduling an appointment for my husband!

Heidy

It's easy to schedule an appointment. My practitioner is helpful, dedicated & tenacious in her pursuit to help me manage my condition.

Carina

The staff that looks out for me...cares for me! I feel they have a very genuine concern for my wellbeing! That means the world to me. It's not just a quick face-time chat, or that feeling of ever being rushed, I truly feel my provider, who's been with me for some time now, actually cares about my health and how best to keep me in the great shape I am now!

Katie

My provider has made all the difference. She honestly and genuinely goes out of her way to help me. As a person with serious ADHD all my life I found someone who makes the difference In how I feel. She always has my very best interest at heart. She’s an incredible person and I feel that she has empathy and believes in what she’s doing.

Crista

The providers have been exceptionally responsive and giving me great advice. I can get an appointment often within hours if I need something urgently.

Giana

Very professional service. I was able to be seen right away and there was complete follow up with my prescription. Thank you!

Shane

I love how well-informed and empathetic my PCP is. It has been the best psychiatric provider experience I have had thus far in my life, I trust her so much more than my previous providers.

Jan

Very understanding!! And absolutely adore the chat portal, where I can express how I'm feeling!!! Thank you Circle Medical 🙏 This journey wouldn't be possible without y'all's help! ❤

Casey

Circle Medical has helped me find a provider that I am comfortable with and otherwise wouldn't be able to have as a primary care provider due to where I live. It also has helped me get help with my ADHD whereas I wouldn't be able to as easily with where I live.

Asher

Very professional service, extremely convenient and has greatly improved my life. Saves me very intimidating visits to regular doctors that don’t take into consideration modern day issues or considerations. I feel taken care of but also understood.

Precious

Easy to use app. The provider that I see is exceptional. You take my insurance so my cost is extremely affordable. Great customer service. Super easy to make an appointment. Many appointment time/day options. I have nothing but praise for Circle Medical. Thank you.

Nathalia

Convenient, knowledgeable and friendly providers and excellent patient interface too, including scheduling.

Kali

Very convenient, and knowledgeable providers. I need monthly appointments with my current prescriptions. My provider is friendly and makes the process a breeze. I don’t have to leave home.

Virginia

Just amazing! My provider is down to earth, very knowledgeable, and respectful of my own experience as a healthcare provider. Circle Medical’s ease of access to the service, and responsiveness are models in the industry.

Shannon

I love my primary care, I have been finally taking care of my health and they have given me the tools for it. I love ease of the app and the assistance from care coordinators.

Layne

I got an appointment quickly, my provider was friendly and helped me. I was very impressed with everything!

Miguel

My provider was very caring and easy to deal with. She spent more time with me than any doctor I've had in the past decade. Highly recommended.

Keagan

The turnaround time to get an appointment and see a provider was so quick and easy; everything is setup with the neurodivergent brain in mind from the way the app is designed to appointment reminders and calendar syncing. My provider made me feel heard and she kept our appointment focused on the task at hand (so important for adhd minds!).

Brynlee

It was easy to navigate and I liked how the staff sent messages through the app to make sure I had all my documents uploaded.

Nathalie

I absolutely love Circle Medical and my provider! The process is so easy and seamless and she’s just the best, most empathetic caregiver! I have referred so many people to Circle Medical!

Dulce

The app is convenient, easy to use, and lets me schedule appointments on short notice (such as for paxlovid for COVID infection). Excellent experience, and my healthcare provider meets my needs.

Logan

I feel like even though it’s virtual that my clinician connected with me. She is very knowledgeable and asks many questions to make sure the medicine I am taking is appropriate for me. I met another provider there when my chosen one wasn’t available and she made me feel the same way. I can trust both of these clinicians.

Shamar

The process was easy and quick. I waited months for an appointment with an office and missed it. With Circle Medical I was seen and treated in a few days. Amazing.

Nikki

My provider is very attentive, and very clear about treatment and recommendations. Everybody is so helpful. When you send messages they respond quickly.

Mina

The portal was really easy to use, registration was simple, and I was quickly matched with a provider.

Frequently Asked

Appointments

What can I expect during my appointment?

During your appointment, your provider will conduct a complete evaluation of your symptoms and if clinically appropriate, prescribe medications or treatments as needed, which will be sent to the pharmacy of your choice the same day. If necessary, your provider may refer you out to a local lab for testing, or to an appropriate specialist.

Can my IBS issues be assessed and treated via a video appointment from home?

Yes. Circle Medical providers are board certified primary care providers who specialize either internal, general or family medicine making them qualified to assess and treat IBS as well as countless other medical conditions as clinically appropriate.

Where will my prescriptions be sent?

Your provider can send your prescriptions to your preferred pharmacy the same day as your visit.

Can Circle Medical primary care providers provide treatment for other medical problems besides IBS issues?

Yes. At Circle Medical, all of our primary care providers are board-certified and are qualified to assess, diagnose and treat a wide array of health conditions. See a full list here.

General

What if I need in-person testing or examinations?

If any in-person care is needed, such as bloodwork, vaccinations, or other testing, our providers are able to send the appropriate request to a nearby lab. Results will be integrated with our HIPAA-compliant mobile app so that patients have access to all of their medical records in one secure place.

Where do you provide services?

To see if you are located within our service area, begin booking an appointment to enter your zip code.

Note: As a patient, you must be physically present within the state your provider is actively licensed to practice medicine in at the time of service.

How long are the appointments?

The first intake appointment is 30 minutes. Follow-up appointments are 20 minutes each.

Billing

How do I know how much my specific appointment will cost?

For those with insurance, your final out-of-pocket costs are determined by your insurance. Once we submit the claim, insurance companies will pay for their portiona portion of the appointment and pass on any remaining costs to you as noted in your policy. Once we know what this cost is, we will update you with an invoice within the app. If you are uninsured, you will be able to receive a cash-pay estimate in our mobile application.

When do I get charged for my appointment?

For those with insurance, it typically takes 1-3 weeks for the insurance claim to be processed. Once processed, we’ll send you an invoice within the app with any remaining costs. You can then opt to pay through the app, or we will automatically charge the payment card on file after 48 hours of sending you the invoice.

For those without insurance (or with out of network insurance), we will send you the invoice 1-2 days after your appointment is completed. You can then opt to pay through the app, or we will automatically charge the payment card on file after 48 hours of sending you the invoice.

Insurance

What insurance do you accept?

We accept over 1,500+ insurance plans. We cover most of the major PPO insurance companies (payors) across the United States. The best way to confirm coverage of your insurance plan is to begin booking an appointment on our website or via our mobile app. During the booking process, you’ll be prompted to enter your insurance information for a real-time verification of your insurance plan.

We do not accept Medicaid or Medi-Cal at this time.

What if I am having issues verifying my insurance plan coverage?

The best way to confirm your insurance plan coverage is to call the Member Services phone number on the back of your insurance card. If needed, you can reference our Tax ID#: 474883537 and our NPI: 1134596091. Once you are able to confirm your coverage and your primary care copay costs, you can use the in-app chat to message our team with the information. We’ll then follow up with confirmation.

What is the total cost of diagnosis and treatment?

Your per-appointment costs are set by your insurance plan. If the costs seem high, you may be on a high deductible health plan (HDHP). This means that you have an annual out-of-pocket amount that you must pay on healthcare in a given year before your insurance plan will cover more of your per-appointment costs.

If you are on an HDHP and have confirmed your insurance information in our mobile app, your remaining deductible for the year will be displayed on the “Book Appointment” page. Note that this amount may be outdated if you have had recent insurance claims processed.
